What’s the point of Twitter?
I’ve noticed more and more people using Twitter. Can anyone tell me why they use it? Seems kind of like calling up your friend and saying, “I’m eating a sandwich. Look at it! LOOK AT IT!” But then again, maybe I’m just an old codger who came of age with the TRS-80 and doesn’t understand all this new high-falutin’ technology.
To me, though, it seems like one of those classic solutions in search of a problem, like anti-static spray.
Let me know where I’m going wrong here.
I laughed at it for a little while, and then I tried it out. It’s a lot more satisfying than you might expect–now that blogging is a bit passe (I find that I seldom want to read my friends’ thoughts at length), it’s a good way to share brief, pithy observations and stay informed about what your friends are doing.
The overall effect is a bit like being at a dinner table and hearing several different conversations at once, although in this case most comments aren’t addressed to anyone in particular or continuously on the same topic.
